Remembering on Day 11 of Bond 365

Good evening and welcome to Day 11! I'm still wishing there was a miracle cure for the common cold...It's Sunday evening and it was sad news to hear of Ms. Anita Ekberg's passing this morning. Today is a day to remember two ladies that might have met if Ms. Ekberg had gotten the role of Honey Ryder in Dr. No. I always wonder "what if" if the casting had gone a different direction...

Dolores Keator as Mary

Mary in Dr. No

I was not able to find much on Dolores Keator. She played Mary, Strangeways personal assistant, in Dr. No. In the part, she was dispatched by the Three Blind Men early in the movie. According to IMDB, she owned the house that was used. In 1963, she was a casting assistant (Jamaica) for Lord of the Flies (Peter Brook). Her husband, Sanford Ziff, founded Sunglass Hut.

Rest in Peace, Antia Ekberg

Anita Ekberg, Hollywood or Bust

Separately, my condolences go out to the family of Anita Ekberg who passed away today. Ms. Ekberg was married to Bond alum Rik Van Nutter (Felix Leiter in Thunderball, 1965) from 1963 until 1975. She started in modeling and competed for the Miss Universe title. She didn’t win, but instead she got a studio contract. She starred in several films, but will probably be best remembered for Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960), starring opposite Marcello Mastroianni. Briefly, she was considered for the role of Honey Ryder that was eventually given to Ursula Andress.
