Felix Leiter in Thunderball

Rik Van Nutter, born Frederick Allen Nutter, played the third Felix Leiter of the CIA in Thunderball. Originally from Southern California, Van Nutter began his acting career in the 1959 Guardatele ma non toccatele. He went onto act in a handful of Italian films in his twenty-year career. In all, he had 14 acting credits.

Born this day in 1946
The English Girl in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

It’s difficult to believe but she failed to get into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and was told she was “too fat and too ugly. ” She was undaunted; she went into modeling instead. She concentrated on her modeling and did quite well, working with several well-known photographers. Without any acting training, she expanded her pursuits into acting, especially at the end of the decade.

As a fan of James Bond, Lumley must have been ecstatic to be cast in a Bond film. She was the English Girl and while it was a small role, but apparently she spent a couple of months dubbing voices in the accents of the women around the world. Last year, she revisited On Her Majesty’s Secret Service as Irma Bunt in the BBC Radio 4 adaptation.
